Liska’s Enduring Spiritual Legacy

Dating back to the 1800s, Liska became a well-known center for Jewish religious and cultural life. Hershele Lisker, or Tzvi Hirsh Liska, draws thousands to Liska, inspiring pilgrimage each year. The village has over 500 Jewish landmarks, each contributing to the town’s historical depth. With nearly 3,000 Jewish residents in the late 19th century, Liska was a thriving center of Jewish culture. Liska’s heritage resonates in neighboring communities such as Kerestir and throughout Hungary. Today, Liska attracts around 5,000 visitors annually, each drawn by its historical and spiritual significance.

Preservation initiatives for Liska are driven by both local and global support.
